Event of the Week: Harbin Ice and Snow Festival

The Harbin Ice and Snow Festival, established in 1985, is an annual event lasting for one month in Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang Province, China. It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. Multi-coloured lights illuminate the ice, which can be carved into everything from buildings and monuments, to figures of animals, people and mythical creatures, or even slides made of ice!

Harbin is located in northeast China which provides abundant ice and snow at the time of year. The technology to create the ice sculptures ranges from using modern lasers to traditional chisels, ice picks, and saws.
